Well, just before we left to go visit our families for the Holidays, our new countertops were to be installed.
Even though Brandon has removed the old countertops from the cabinets, the sink needed to be un-plumbed. When he took off the garbage disposal, Barb asked to have the disposal wired into the wall on a switch, instead of the awkward "doorbell" on the countertop. So, since Brandon is such a good husband, he did it! He replaced the old switch that controlled the overhead sink light with a dual switch (right picture) and put in a conduit wire and box under the sink (left picture).
Thanks to Brandon's dad for talking him through the process. This might be the ONLY project in the house that hasn't had to be done twice...
Our new countertops were installed the day before we left, and they are awesome!!!
(Imagine there are doors on the bottom cabinets!)
This is an idea of what it will look like in the end!
Only problem is that now it has a big crack in it. The inspector is
coming on Thursday to file the paperwork and set us on the road to
getting it all sorted out.
Brandon spent a LOOOOOOONG time trying to get the new plumbing right. The new sink wasn't only a deeper sink, but the drain was also over an extra inch. Not enough to make a huge difference, but enough to be obnoxious. It ended up needing TWO separate accordion tubes.
Once we were back, Barb went to work on a few projects, the first being her lampshade! Its not completely done yet, but its close!! (It needs to be trimmed on the top and bottom!)
The other project is completing the doors and the drawers in the kitchen. Its so much easier when Brandon helps prime! Barb enjoys spending less time on those stupid cabinets. These doors and drawers are the last step, and then we are done with the cabinets!!
